tourism kamloops
Tourism Kamloops has been a creative proving ground for my work since as early as 2018. A space where I've directed campaigns that required me to strategize, scout, brief, and lead dual capture productions across photo and video in the field since before I knew how to name each layer of the process.
Initial assignments were focused on character-led campaigns, where my creative direction put real stories of Kamloops locals ahead of the landscape for award winning narrative pieces. Over time these assignments grew to focus more closely on the environment of Kamloops... the way the light, landscape, and architecture play as a character in the story as opposed to simply being the backdrop for an activity.
In this work I've developed a creative process I put to work in all destination and experience based assignments: a preproduction treatment that defines visual and narrative direction before locations, a scouting practice that treats locations as characters in the work, and a production workflow that sees images shaped in concept before the camera comes out.
Kamloops has taught me a distinct use of light and landscape, where patience and preparation are greatly rewarded.
